I think if the human race is potentially smart enough to create a settlement in space, we're probably going to be smart enough to avoid accidentally killing ourselves off within the next century. Some people hold such a dim view of the intelligence of their fellow-people.

Hawking just wants humans to move into space so that his alien families on the moon and Mars will have a good source for cheap labor. That man is not from around these parts.
